Synopsis A plant disease is an abnormal condition of a plant that impairs bodily functions, associated with specific symptoms and signs. It may be caused by external factors, such as invading organisms, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. Organisms that cause infectious disease include fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, viruses, viroids, virus-like organisms phytoplasmas, protozoa, nematodes and parasitic plants. Not included are insects, mites, vertebrate or other pests that affect plant health by consumption of plant tissues.
