This book tries to present the ethnographic profiles of ten diverse socio-cultural ethnic groups living in the Jhapa district of Nepal—Hill Brahmin, Chhetri, Rajbanshi, Tajpuriya, Satar, Dhimal, Kisan, Koche, Meche and Kami. Also it examines the impact of change and development on them and the links that bring them together.

Their profile contains information about their origin and history, population size and distribution, settlement pattern, language, kinship, descent and family structure, material culture, life-cycle rituals, economy, traditional leadership and political organization, religion, festivals and fairs, and change.
