This book deals with the history and socio-religious practices of Mala Dasaris, a priestly sub-caste of the Dalits, in their day-to-day activities. Tracing the origin and spread of the Mala Dasaris in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, it discusses at length their culture and tradition, religious rites and rituals, and social practices.

It also document twenty three temples of Mala Dasaris and their priesthood in order to prove the theory that they are not untouchables. Their role in temples as well as in the villages has been analyzed as well.
