The articles in English and Hindi deal with issues and challenges faced by elderly people in India especially its rural areas in UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. The 49 papers focus on demography of elderly people in India, their physical and mental health issues, their financial and economic concerns, their care, protection and well-being, and attempts to bridge the generation gap. Based on field studies, they view the relation between economic independence and socio-economic and health aspects. They take up nutrition for the elderly and communicating with them, quality of life of institutionalised dementia patients, the state of the displaced elderly and elderly people living on their own, and challenges faced by old widows. They include a comparative study between India, USA and Poland vis-à-vis the functional fitness status of the elderly.
