Synopsis Bunch of essays presented in honour of Prof. S. Sankaranarayanan, on archaeology and culture, epigraphy, religion and philosophy, literature; and art and architecture have fresh and original interpretations. The essays on archaeology and culture cover the aspects of ecology and archaeology of cultures, urbanism and settlement pattern. In the epigraphy section, the newly discovered Pallava copper plate grant of Pallava Vishnugopa Varma, Eastern Chalukyan Vishnuvardana II charters and Sriranga III are the highlights. Several essays on Buddhism give new interpretations in the section of religion and philosophy. In the literature section the manuscript Saccasankhepa, the Pali text is critically edited for the first time. The section on art and architecture covers the aspects of aesthetics, iconography of rare sculptures of Nritya Vishnu, Durga etc.
