Does India have a ‘National Security Strategy’? How does one understand India’s defence preparedness in the context of the three services? The discourse on the making of a national security policy, its political implications, linkages with foreign policy, the issues of civil-military relations, defence research and development, and the role of the State and participation of the private sector in defence production are discussed in this volume. The two specific cases where the issue of defence preparedness is critical, that of dealing with Pakistan and China are covered in detail.
