Synopsis This study seeks to explore the common ground between the two representative poet-prophets of the USA and India and their concern for the welfare of the common man. The divergent family backgrounds of the two visionaries have also been studied with a view to bringing out the individual poetic perception of each, the entire humanity being their concern. Both the poets seek to span earth and heaven with a rainbow bridge of synthesis and integration. Both of them glorify the innocence of childhood and value the dignity of human personality which as a microcosm reflects all the splendour of the macrocosm. Their love of freedom is manifested in the advocacy of free verse as a medium to freely and fully express the urges and aspirations of the human heart.
