Synopsis Studies on gender have not only enriched our understanding of human behaviour but also opened up our mind to a long neglected dimension of social analysis. In spite of the large number of writings on gender, it continues to remain a fascinating field for new explorations and new types of analysis. The vol. 1 is divided into seven sections and includes 25 papers, some of which are of a general nature and others have a specific urban orientation. The vol. 2 contains 21 papers, out of which 11 deal with issues relating to women in rural areas and 10 raise primary questions affecting the lives of tribal women. The volume includes contributions from social scientists and activists.
