Bhishma was yearning to know what transpired between Arjuna and Krishna when the Bhagavat-Gita was rendered. During the war, when Krishna lifted the chariot wheel and pretended to charge at Bhishma, the essence of Gita was revealed to Bhishma at that very instant. The questions posed by Yudhishthira to Bhishma in the presence of Krishna, like what is the one Divinity in this Universe?, What is the Supreme status which one should seek to attain?, in reply Bhishma took the 1000 names of 'Vishnu'. Krishna desired to hear Bhishma answer 'the questions and he let Bhishma do the narration and endorsed without any amendment. The 1000 names are infact attributes, and these holy names can be recited at any time and no time is forbidden to learn and recite. The editors of the text, Sri P. Natarajan and R.
