Synopsis It is common knowledge that a few thousand persons are put under arrest by our police everyday. They largely comprise of petty criminals, wayside drunks, vagabonds and those from the underprivileged sections of the society. Despite our liberal law relating to bail and a concerned judiciary, these detenus are unable to secure release because of our antiquated bail system which insists upon monetary security coupled with sound sureties. The present work is a practical guide to our bail law and practice and would be of great use to lawyers, sociologists, activists, academic institutions and students.
