Synopsis The range and complexity of the numerous instruments of international environmental law poses the problem of accessibility for the students, teachers and practitioners. Although there are quite a few collections of basic documents of international environmental law, published as they are in the west, they are expensive and generally beyond the reach of the readership mentioned in India and other developing countries. This is a modest effort to meet this need. This compilation contains carefully chosen international instruments dealing with environment, including "hard" and "soft" law. Indicative references to contemporary literature on each subject covered also make it a useful research tool. This compilation adds to the Environmental Law Series of the Jawaharlal Nehru Chair in Environmental Law, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University and is being published under the joint auspices of the Chair and the Indian Society of International Law. Depending on the consumer interest and demand, supplements to this volume might be brought out in future.
