Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradun India's premier institute of its type, was established in 1906, making a modest beginning with five branches, namely Silviculture, Forest Entomology, Forest Chemistry, forst Botany and Forest Utilization, commonly known as economic branch. Published in 1925, the present monograph is an note on the origin and development of the economic Branch of FRI and its research and allied activities in different areas such as wood technology, timber testing, timber seasoning, wood preservation, paper pulp, and wood-working etc. Contributed by concerned experts from FRI, the different chapters of the book speak of the efforts and problems involved in the initial stages of the establishment of the corresponding achievements tht resulted in initiation of scientific research on the timber and minor forest products in India and their placement in the market in a suitable form.
