Synopsis It is the general impression of the people that the President of India is merely a rubber stamp; he is powerless, and is always bound by the advice of the Cabinet. But it is not so. Dr. Rajendra Prasad the first President of India had an encounter with the First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and spelled out the power of the President under the constitution. The present work is a unique effort successfully made by the author to adequately expose the indepth functioning of the Presidents and the Prime Ministers. There have been many occasions during the tenure of certain Presidents when differences on matters of grave public importance arose, and it was established that the President was not a glorified cipher or a mere ‘rubber stamp’.
