Despite the wealth of material contained in various published works and article on Indus-Saraswati civilization, it was felt that the study of Kot Diji-Sothi complex needed a comprehensive and critical estimate as the developmental role played by Kot Diji-Sothi complexes in the formation of the Mature Harappan has pre-occupied South Asian Archaeology for the last many years and the present work is an outcome of that. Many scholars deny that . Many scholars deny that any genetic linkage exits between these cultures whereas others maintain that while singly none of these complexes is a direct ancestor to the mature-Harappan, but if they are combined into a single cultural complex, they do share enough characteristic with the mature Harappan to be considered an early phase of the Harappan culture. Developmental relationships between these complexes and the mature-Harappans have usually been based on typological studies of materials culture. Such studies emphasize the similarities and differences which can be defined between the material culture of the mature Harappans and the artifacts associated with Kot Diji-Sothi complex.
