Synopsis The history of Economic Development of countries show that there have been countries show that there have been countless examples of institutional agencies that have played pivotal role in fulfilling certain developmental activities. Cooperation as an institution is used in various countries as instrument of economic growth. The subject matter of this book is relating to rural cooperatives especially the rural credit and marketing societies and their impact on the Indian rural economy. For proper understanding of the activities of such societies in rural areas and the consequent impact of such societies on the economy and society three case studies have been elaborately presented. An evaluation of cooperative legislation have also been made. It suggests that cooperative legislation should be made in such a form so that the cooperative movement would become free and democratic without any external disturbances in it and would guarantee economic development and the betterment of the condition of every member by full utilization of local resources through cooperative enterprises and everybody would think that the society is his own society instead of thinking it as Government society.
