Regulatory mechanism plays a pivotal role in steering higher education in the right direction for making it a reliable source of socio-economic development. Higher education in India is being regulated by around 18 rgulatory bodies. A couple of committees and commissions have called for revamping the existing regulatory set up on account of it being less effective, over regulated and yet less governed. The issue has been part of the mainstream debates in Indian higher education for over a decade now.

The book discusses the experience of three major regulatory bodies namely, the UGC, the AICTE and the MCI.
