Synopsis Index This volume includes 22 original papers on the subject "Universe of knowledge: It's development and structure", written by prominent and well known authors in the field of library and information science. The papers included in the four sections broadly cover Universe of Knowledge, curriculum and criteria of relevance; objectives, intellectual basis and inter-disciplinary studies; contents of the paper Universe of Knowledge and strategies, methodology, and instruction and pooling of expertise. The objectives, methodology and content of Universe of Knowledge appended to this volume under the heading 'recommendations' will serve as model for L.I.S. Departments in the country and elseware to teach the subject in M.L.I.Sc. programmes. The editors sincerely hope that this volume be of help to teachers of L.I.S. who handle the subject and for the students to understand the scope, methodology and well defined areas which go into the subject. It is true to state that not much literature has been published on the subject and this publication, it is believed, will go a long way in meeting the requirements of L.I.S. teaching and student community and serve as an important contribution to the field of "Universe of knowledge.
