Synopsis The main objective of this book is to delineate the meanings of "participation and development" and reemphasise their growing relevance in the present situation. One more objective is to reaffirm the faith in people and their democratic participation in all decision-making processes relating to their development and empowerment. Another objective is to help the concerned individuals and institutions in understanding the concepts of development and participation identifying strategy, technique and resources required for achieving development goals through participation process. The book is organised in seven chapters and contains two appendices and three annexures. The book is the result of a growing demand from NGOs, development agencies and different social interest groups' for conceptual clarity, information requirements for undertaking development tasks and its implementation through people's genuine participation at grassroots level.
