In 'The Religion We Need' Radhakrishnan's solution is to harness the spirituality common to all, and foster a sense of brotherhood whereby race or culture become secondary considerations and the sufferings of the weaker nations are mitigated by those countries in a stronger position. The fact that these sentiments still ring so true in a world threatened by terrorism and still blighted by wars, shows that Radhakrishnan's timely words fall largely on stony ground. It only takes a cursory glance at the biography of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to realise how supremely multi-qualified he was to put forward what is effectively a viable proposal for world peace. He distils many of his beliefs into stratagems aimed at eradicating world conflict and inequality once and for all. A scholar of comparative religion and philosophy, an Oxford Don and a Professor of Ethics, an ambassador to UNESCO and in Moscow, who went on to become the second President of India, Radhakrishnan was one of the supreme and most reasonable thinkers of the twentieth century.
