Synopsis The book deals with the much neglected study on the evolution of building technology in early and medieval Andhradesa. The book embodies an analytical study of various technical skills involved in the construction of both simple and sophisticated buildings, like the house, dams, forts, stupas, chaityas, rock-cut, brick and stone temples. The material is placed in the context of broad phases of historical change and continuity in Andhradesa.in the main body of the book, the evolution of building technology has been focussed upon in a thematic way covering the structures of habitation and irrigation related ones. This is followed by the political space indicated by forts and the burial space in terms of funerary structures. The last part of the book, discusses the evolution of different techniques and material used for various structures. Details of the various social groups that laboured to conceive, plan and execute the constructions and their skills, qualifications, social status are given in the last chapter.
