Synopsis

The National Archives of Nepal is the official custodian of the archival documents in the country. In its possession, it has a large number if manuscripts written in several languages and scripts and covering a wide range of subject matters dating from the 8th century to the 20th century. The manuscript collection of the National Archives contains some of the oldest and most unique Nepalese manuscripts. The National Archives also houses a vast and varied collection for more than 8000 rare Tibetan manuscripts and block-print titles in 1019 bundles dating from the 11th and 12th centuries to the 20th century. Due to its script, languages, subject matters and the materials used, the Tibetan manuscript is considered very important. The Tibetan scripts and language are still in practice in the Northern regions of Nepal. These manuscripts stand as a symbol of glory of the Tibetan culture and civilization and it has been in use for the religious, cultural and educational purposes from ancient times. These manuscripts based on Buddhism are also important for the authentic knowledge of our culture and religious diversity. 

 

Vol. 1: 192 pages; Vol. 2 (2008): 283 pages; Vol. 3 (2010) "Tibetan Manuscripts Catalogue",: 230 pages; Vol. 4 ((2012) "Catalogue of Tibetan Manuscripts": 376 pages; Vol. 5 (2011) "Catalogue of Tibetan Manuscripts": 234 pages. Nepal's National Archives has a collection of more than 8,000 rare Tibetan manuscripts and block print titles in 1,019 bundles dating from the 11th to the 20th century. This five volume set lists a total of 3,941 documents.
