Synopsis Literature is a social institution using us its medium language, a social creation. Such traditional literary devices as symbolism and meter are social in their very nature. They are contentious and norms which could have arisen only in society. But, further more literature represent life and life is in large measure a social reality, even though the natural world and the inner or subjective world of the individual have also been objects of literary imitation. Usually, however, the inquiry concerning literature and society is put more narrowly and externally. Questions are as had about the relations of literature to a given social situation, to an economic, social and political systems. It will thus be seen that there exists a very close relationship between literature and society. In this book, a specific relation has been examined between the English literature and the English society.
