Crime in Delhi

Synopsis Criminological research goes back over some two centuries, but professional geographers have not been directly involved until the very recent past. In the present study the structure of crime and its spatial patterns in the national capital, Delhi, are analysed. The present work assumes significance since it not only analyse the spatial patterns of crime and the role of police, but also identifies the residences of the criminals with associated characteristics. A virtually absent component in the extant literature is the study of the residences of the criminals and the role of media in reporting of crimes. The study is based on criminal statistics covering a period of three decades i.e., 1960 to 1990. Both the qualitative and quantitative methods have been used in the analysis of both primary as well as secondary data. Various statistical methods together with tables and maps help in the analysis of the data. This book would be of great help not only to students and researches working on the geography of crime, but also for the police administration of Delhi and other metro cities of India.
