The Tamilians made Calcutta the cradle of scientific research by producing Sir C.V. Raman, the only Nobel Laureate in Physics from India. The Telugus produced Dr. s. Radhakrishnan, a former President of India. Dr. C.R. Rao, the authority on Statistics, is the product of Calcutta. South Indians who have no vested interest in Calcutta are the marginal men of the metropolis, but their contribution in making Calcutta the Intellectual Capital of India, is unique.
