Synopsis Empowerment is process focused on the capacity building of the people to initiate, sustain and own the development by the people. In this process, people are enabled to have access, participate and control decision of various aspects/activities of welfare as well as development programmes. In our country, both government and non-governmental efforts in recent time are aimed at increasing the "power resource" of the people for their sustainable development. The process of empowerment includes enhancement of economic, political, social and psychological capabilities of the people for the sustainable development. The present volume is a documentation of perspectives, reviews, research findings and experience related to the empowerment strategy that has influenced the socio-economic, political and psychological capabilities of the people.
