Synopsis The International Oceanographic Commission defines marine pollution as: “Introduction by man, directly or indirectly, of substances into the marine environment resulting in such deleterious effects as harm to living resources, hazards to human health, or hindrance of marine activities and reduction of amenities.” The productivity of the marine environment and its capacity to receive and disperse pollutants depend on its physical and chemical properties. The transport of pollutants and their rate of dilution or deposition in sediments is determined by motion in the sea, at all scales from the occanic to the molecular, the man aim of this book has been to demonstrate that what specific action cab be taken to control various kinds of pollution such as marine, water etc. the book assumes no previous knowledge of the subject and is based on the standard methods which the authors have found out over a number of years in teaching environmental land and marine pollution at all levels in different parts of country to be most readily understood by students.
