Synopsis
The problems of Law and Order Administration have assumed unprecedented dimensions with a multiplicity of disruptive forces at work and the agitational approach adopted by various groups. Coordination of research on national and international scale acquires an ever increasing importance today. This study is an attempt to describe and analyses the phenomenon of law and order Administration on the basis of an empirical investigation. Maintenance of Law and Order at the district level is the responsibility of many agencies and individuals but the study is primarily concerned with police. It examines the law and order problems, organizational structure, relationship between District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, and highlights the role and responsibilities of police in the developmental context. An effort has been made to assess the adequacy of the present personnel system to meet the growing challenges and demands. It further examines the problem of interaction between the police and the citizen on the basis of an empirical study.
