Synopsis Based on the papers presented at the Aga Khan University Centre of English Language International Seminar 2001, this book provides the Pakistani and the South Asian perspective on language planning, as well as reflections on modern approaches to English Language Teaching including a relatively new area: ELT and information technology. While there are a number of useful texts on language planning issues in countries where English is a first or second language, this book is unique in that it presents a coherent view of language planning in education in South Asia. It focuses particularly on issues likely to be of interest to language teachers and others interested in the educational implications of socio-linguistic research in their own context.
