Synopsis This book presents information about the premier oriental libraries of India and brings together details about their collections irrespective of their locations or languages. Many sources including catalogues in English, Urdu and Hindi and a number of internet websites have been consulted for this work. Printed materials as well as manuscripts in Sanskrit, Hindi, Tamil, Tibetan, Urdu, Persian, Arabic and English have been covered as part of the collections of libraries. As a matter of fact, the relevant information contained in the traditional sources of information, especially books was found to be outdated in most of the cases whereas the same available on the World Wide Web is too short to serve a meaningful purpose. Therefore an attempt has been made to collect all the relevant material from every available source and present it in a way that the gap between the old and the new is bridged and a comprehensive picture of oriental libraries is presented. The book will be specially useful for researchers in oriental disciplines and history, students of library and information science, library professionals and all those persons who have interest in rare and invaluable manuscripts and books available within the country.
