Synopsis This book deals with the hitherto neglected first phase of the National Education Movement. Satis Chandra Mukherjee, the doyen of this movement comes live in this account. The Dawn Society which embodied this movement gets full coverage of its activities here. Science and technology got high priority in its agenda. Through its mouthpiece, the Dawn Magazine, a series of articles on Science & Technology were published. A selection of these papers has been analysed in this text and the selection has been printed as the appendices. This is the second volume of a project on ‘Science and Nationalism in Bengal 1876-1947’ sponsored by the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, for the authors at Jadavpur University.
