Synopsis Some Aspects of British Administration in Orissa (1912-1936) is a systematic account of the history of Orissa during the period it was tagged with Bihar. For an integrated account of the British Indian history, such regional surveys of different parts of India would help to indicate the process of change which was coming over India during the early decades of the 20th century. A detailed account of the main aspect of the British administration and policy, such as land revenue policy and administration, justice and police, education, agriculture problems, flood and irrigation, industrial policy, trade and commerce, excise policy and administration, from the main bulk of the work. This study also covers the problem of administrative reorganization, including the movement for and creation of a separate province. The impact of the British Policy has been studied in the border context of Indian administration and fiscal problems. Based on primary source materials including manuscript records, this volume will prove to be a valuable addition to our knowledge of modern Orissa.
