Synopsis Coping with Natural Hazards: Indian Context embodies a collection of scientific papers, each by an eminent and acknowledged authority, on various natural hazards that have been causing disasters and distresses with increasing severity. These papers were presented and discussed at a national symposium in October 2001 organised at Pune by the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad. In addition to describing causes and effects of various disastrous natural disaster mitigation, public policy for hazard management, and general awareness programmes. An added attraction is a series of recommendations by the participants on hazard preparedness plans, laws relating to strengthening of buildings and infrastructure, and developing early warning systems.
