Synopsis Breeding and culture of freshwater ornamental fishes is a fast growing trade the world over. In India also this field is attracting attention of all concerned to strengthen this specialized field of aquaculture in view of the opportunities available for promoting entrepreneurship and self employment. In our formal teaching and research programmes also, aquarium Management can play a vital role in popularizing basics of environmental education and concepts of aquatic ecosystem in particular. Considering the need for comprehensive information on various facets of freshwater ornamental fishes this hand book has been presented. The entire subject has been dealt in 14 chapters comprising of morphology and biology of ornamental fishes and important freshwater ornamental fishes. Subsequent chapters describe water quality, accessories of aquarium and aquarium plants. A separate chapter is devoted to aquarium construction and its setting. Maintenance of aquarium, feeding and breeding of ornamental fishes are also stated categorically under separate chapters. Similarly, the diseases associated with aquarium fishes are also explained. There is an independent chapter on rearing of ornamental fishes in garden pools also in this manuscript. For easy access to topics a subject index is included at the end of the hand book.
