Synopsis The present work is an exhaustive study of the folk designs made on floor and walls by women of Rajasthan folk. It will be of interest to artists, art historians, critics, designers and decorators in the field of textiles, jwellery, interior architecture and furniture. The book deals with the traditions of Mandana related to different castes and regions as well as different festivals, celebrations and auspicious occasions. A detailed analysis of the origin and development of folk motifs has been made keeping in view their use, cultural importance and application in other fields. The study reveals that the folk traditions of decorating the surroundings and objects of use is an innate desire of man and is transmitted from one generation to other by way of performance and training. It is prevalent throughout India is some form or other.
