Synopsis Not preceded by many books of its kind, this is an empirical study of the making of political women and women in decision making. The number of women in legislatures remains a miniscule even after nearly a quarter century since the U.N. declaration of the International Wear/decade of Women in 1975. This study covers the socio-economic roots of women legislators, their political socialization, motivations, political ascent, and their role in the legislature. And this study throws lights on the variety of dimensions of the legislator's non-legislative roles also. Attempts have been made to contrast there role perceptions with their actual performances.
