Synopsis This book is made up of a collection of papers presented in a Seminar organized by the ICSSR North Eastern Regional Centre at Shillong. All the contributors focused on a singly theme that India’s North East needs development. The twenty-three papers in this volume have been grouped in themes covering polity, society, economy, tourism, education and health. All the authors of the articles are persons who either live in the region or have had long academic interest in the region. Their articles therefore reflect much more sensitivity and details of the North-East focusing on the question of its development. This book calls for a wider readership cutting across the activists, policy makers, researchers, development agencies, and those who are concerned with the future of the region.
