Synopsis Education is one of the surest means to enhance development responsiveness and the evidence on the value of education in the development process is conclusive and positive but the significant discussion of current interest on relationship between education and development is about the rate of returns/benefits from different levels of education. The available evidence in this regard is still incomplete and the debate is unfinished. Keeping in view such a background, the authors got inspired to see the contribution of education in development and the present book is an outcome of the same. The book assumes importance in the present Indian context as Govt. of India is making efforts to achieve cent per cent literacy and to develop awareness among masses so that they can be mobilized in the process of development of the nation.
