Synopsis The agenda of women’s empowerment had been paramount in the last few decades not only in India but abroad also. Women are the focal point of studies in contemporary political sociology. The reports of the United Nations Human Development reveal much concern about the political status of women at global level. Needless to say that regarding India where women constitute half of the total population of the country, their of the total population of the country, their empowerment is a sine-quo-non which is possible only by their political empowerment. Recent years have witnessed a concern at the marginal presence of women from the micro to the macro level. A healthy democracy requires a sound and adequate political participation of its people. The present bout is an attempt to review and evaluate the political status of women. The findings will be useful for the researchers, scholars, and government of India, women activists, feminists and the students of political science.
