Synopsis "The present volume based on a study relating to "Employment opportunities for women in export-oriented garment industry" presents an overview on the future prospects of the ready-made garment industry and its export sector, employment levels in the industry and the share of women in employment and training facilities available. Various processes of production in garment industry (export sector) in which employment of women is maximum or are viewed with advantage by the merchant/manufacture exporters have been identified. An assessment of impact of technological change on employment and wage structure of women has been made. Important recommendations emerging from these analyses relate to training and re-training of women workers, strict enforcement of labour legislations relating to employment security, conditions of work and social security, encouragement of women entrepreneurs by providing inputs like training, raw material and market intelligence, and change of attitudes through gender sensitisation."
