Synopsis The present book Geomerphology and Prehistory of Madhya Pradesh, India, by Dr. R.P. Pandey makes an exhaustive study of the landscape as well as stone age cultural material. The book has many distinctive features as it is for the first time, the landscape and development of various cultures in changing environments have been understood and are further been correlated with the Palaeontological finds. This could deduce the past environments, early settlement and subsistence patterns. Besides, the book also deals with the statistical parameters explaining functional aspect of characteristic specimens in different periods. The author himself was engaged in the field studies in the upper part of the Mahanadi and its main tributaries and located many implementiferous and fossififerous quaternary sections which has helped to build up a comprehensive quaternary history of the region. The geomorphological features traced, show how the landscape has gone under modifications. The cultural and faunal material also have been discussed in detail and have been compared with the other industries of the country, to bring out the personality of the region. Some of the conclusions where the author has arrived at, adds uniqueness and new directions for the study of the geomorphology and prehistoric cultures of the sub-continent.
