Synopsis Based on extensive field work with a focus on children who are retrieved from carpet industry in the Bhadoi-Mirzapur belt of Uttar Pradesh and admitted to the non formal schools, the book evaluates the programme of non-formal education and the progress made by the children released from the industry, their status of health and nutrition, education, skill development, employment' orientation and training in such schools. It also provides an account of the magnitude of efforts made by the government and the voluntary sector to eradicate child labour, working and teaching-cum-living conditions at the units' sites and in the non-formal education centres.
