Synopsis Socialism in India traces the growth and achievement of the socialist movement from the establishment of the Indian national Congress in 1885 to date. It focuses the hurdles and problems which have posed a serious threat to the development of the Indian socialist movement. The existing socio-economic conditions of the Indian masses, their economic backwardness and stagnation in their thinking on political and economic issues have been thoroughly analysed. He concludes that the measures adopted by the Government to remove poverty have only served to increase the already wide gap between the rich and the poor because of large scale corruption prevalent in the political arena.
