Synopsis The Kashmir issue raises many questions which solicit answers on an urgent basis. It has since 1947 fostered violence on numerous occasions leading to wars between India and Pakistan, social tensions within the region, and differences between the state and the central governments on issues relating to division of powers. Seventeen experts have in the present anthology, shed light on various facets of the Kashmir imbroglio. They have proposed many strategies to resolve the conflict in Kashmir. Whether these will help India and Pakistan to defuse the existing tension in the future, remains to be seen. That, in any case, is the intention with which these pages are being published and hopefully will be read by all those interested in the seemingly intractable Kashmir problem.
