Synopsis This is the tenth Volume of the series Cross-Currents of Indian History and Culture and deals with the theme India Since Independence: Social and economic Transformation. The Volume is divided into two parts (I) Social Transformation; and System and its Working. The section on Social Transformation discusses topics like Art and culture, Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Social Welfare, Mass Communication technological developments. Part two titled System and its Working comprises three chapters, presenting an assessment of the republican institutions of India as they have worked during the last six decades. After an assessment of the working of the polity, it considers the necessary systematic amends so as to reform the system.
