Synopsis Teaching a foreign language to adult beginners is very difficult. How many do not maintain their interest beyond the first three months! In most cases the reason is that the teacher is employing two strange sets of terms to the student, as the terminology and processes of grammar are as unknown as the language being studied. In the past, very little foreign language teaching was done. However, the advent of audio-visual aids has acted as a spur in the classroom, and many scientific and technological advances in the outside world have produced what amounts to completely new condition, and the present conception of the role of language in both the educational and the economic situation is one of usefulness.
