Synopsis The present book covers the basic, applied and current status of various aspects of crop improvement of plants.  The book comprises 33 chapters covering crops.  Ti brings relevant information on field crops like introduction, origin, area and distribution, taxonomical classification, cytology, vegetative and reproductive biology, breeding objectives, breeding methods, varieties, constraints, etc.  different scientists who are specialists in their relevant fields have contributed the chapters thus ensuring the veracity and quality.  Attempts have been made to incorporate the chapters of specialists working on a particular crop. It is hoped that the present compilation would be of great use to researchers, teachers and students of agriculture and biology in general and plant breeding and genetics in particular.  Criticism and suggestions for further improvement will be highly appreciated and acknowledged.
