Synopsis The volume represents various empirical studies and many voices on the greater region of Uttar Pradesh. It includes 30 articles in English and 44 articles in Hindi; the contributors include the senior historians and well as the young scholars who have undertaken these studies under the watchful eyes of their studies under the watchful eyes of their teachers.  The volume encapsulates the history of the region from the earliest times to the present and seeks to bring out many aspects of the society and culture for the first time.  Hopefully, it will stimulate some discussion and debate among those who are interested in the various aspects of the society and economy of the upper Gangetic Valley during the millennium.
