Synopsis The present book entitled "Societies and Cultures in India - Tradition and Modernity : Persistence and Change" happens to be commemorative volume of Prof. P.K. Bhowmick. This book deals with the Non-Tribal issues in particular where various scholars and academicians gave their valuable comments on the subject dealt by them very analytically and critically. This book is divided into four major sections namely, (i) Village studies, (ii) Applied / Action Anthropology, (iii) Language and religion, (iv) Societies and culture. The substance of majority of the articles is based on field level data along with few articles having theoretical and conceptual framework. No doubt the contents of the book will give some exposure to the students of anthropology in particular and other branches of social sciences as well. On the other hand it will be helpful to the policy makers and administrators who are actively involved in taking policy level decisions for the welfare of the tribal communities at the national as well as regional level.
