Synopsis The book presents a history of organisation and movements of the tram workers of Calcutta (1920-1967). It deals with the tramworkers' struggle for rudimentary economic gains, and at the same time focuses on their response to contemporary political issues and developments. This is also a detailed account of urban political scenario which determined the course of struggle of the tram workers during and after the colonial period.
