An attempt has been made to include remote sensing for inventorying, mapping of soils and its applications in agriculture. The chapter 5 defines the characteristics of physical and chemical oriented soil problem and remedial measures to regain the quality of soil back to its original or normal productivity form. The concentration and composition of dissolved constituents in a water determine its quality for irrigation purpose. The last chapter 6 forms an important supplement to evaluate the quality of irrigation water for agriculture based on various criteria. This textbook will be useful not only to the undergraduate students but also to the Scientists of Agricultural Universities.
